Industry body Subsea UK has unveiled its new board for 2018-19. Following a members’ ballot at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) nine members have been re-elected and two have stepped down. The newly elected board, will continue to ensure the UK maintains a strong representation across the global subsea industry under the leadership of chairman, Bill Edgar and chief executive, Neil Gordon.

-Industry body urges organisations to step forward with game changing technologies- Industry body Subsea UK in partnership with Scottish Enterprise has today announced that it has opened an R&D funding call for innovation projects to drive forward research and development projects between Scotland and Japan that will help solve the industry’s most complex technological challenges.

Industry experiences and upcoming opportunities will be shared at a lunch and learn event with INEOS, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of chemicals and oil products, in Aberdeen next week. Organised by industry body Subsea UK, attendees will be given an insight into why INEOS decided to move into the offshore sector and, as a new player in the field, its own observations about the supply chain process.

Industry body, Subsea UK has issued a final call for entries ahead of its prestigious 2018 business awards. The awards recognise companies and individuals who are leading the way in Britain’s £9billion subsea sector.

The latest subsea technologies and adaptations developed in response to increasingly challenging market conditions will be among the topics under the spotlight at Subsea UK’s 2017 Underwater Vehicles Conference.

The Subsea Expo Conference runs multiple parallel sessions over three days (7 – 9th February 2018) and attracts a broad range of experts to discuss the challenges facing the industry, cost efficiency, new technologies and diversification, among other topics.

Subsea UK’s flagship conference – final call for papers Industry experts are being urged by Subsea UK to showcase the most advanced technologies and lead discussions on the current and future subsea challenges at next year’s flagship event, Subsea Expo. The 13th annual conference, which takes place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre from 7-9th February 2018, will examine and debate key industry topics including global markets, ROV developments, subsea innovation and offshore renewables.

Subsea UK has highlighted the huge opportunity for subsea companies to step-up and play their part in helping to meet the world’s renewable energy targets at an event in Aberdeen yesterday (Wednesday 20th September).

With global offshore wind expenditure expected to rise to over £350bn between now and 2026, there is a huge opportunity for subsea companies to step up and play their part in helping to meet the world’s renewable energy targets. This will see a significant number of developments taking off over the next few years, and with world renowned experience in offshore oil and gas engineering, the UK has the skills and expertise to lead the way - delivering investment and creating jobs. Subsea UK will be running an event on 20 September, to explore the offshore wind developments that are currently underway, while offering practical help and advice to companies looking to access the rapidly growing offshore renewables market.

Australasian Oil & Gas (AOG) in conjunction with Subsea UK, the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) and Subsea Energy Australia (SEA) are seeking abstract submissions for presentations to be considered for the AOG 2018 Subsea Forum, as part of the AOG Conference. AOG 2018 returns again to Perth, Australia and will feature an exhibition in addition to conference content that will ensure attendees have an unsurpassed opportunity to learn about the latest developments that are happening in the oil and gas industry, both in Australia and across the world.

Industry body Subsea UK is hosting two briefing sessions with the Department for International Trade (DIT) ahead of SPE Offshore Europe 2017. The first briefing on August 28 will focus on the post-energy reform oil and gas sector opportunities in Mexico. Mariana Garay, energy senior officer for the DIT team in Mexico along with Chris Wall, DIT Business Specialist will give an in-depth view on developments within the Mexican market.

Underwater vehicles operate in challenging environments - and that includes the current market environment. With 2017 seeing the “new norm” of $50 oil, there are also signs that an increase in activity may not be too far away. However, the challenge for the sector is to look where it can add value and increase efficiency in underwater operations.

UK subsea companies showcased their technology and expertise to senior officials from India's largest oil and gas exploration and production company, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), last week on a trade mission to South Asia.

Senior figures from Mexico’s national oil company, Pemex, have been discovering the secrets of the UK subsea sector’s success and how it has revolutionised the way in which hydrocarbons have been extracted from beneath the seabed during a fact-finding visit to Aberdeen. Organised in partnership with the Department of International Trade (DIT), the five-day subsea learning event included site visits to some of the sector’s most innovative companies, including GE Oil & Gas, Aker Solutions, Hydrasun, Wood Group, BP and ROVOP. The delegation experienced what it’s like to operate a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), learnt about diving operations and toured a number of subsea manufacturing plants.

ENPRO Subsea’s managing director Ian Donald has been recognised by his peers for his outstanding contribution to the sector at the prestigious Subsea UK Awards 2017. Mr Donald was commended for his pioneering work, which has seen innovative solutions redefine key sections of the marketplace, during a black-tie dinner attended by around 600 industry leaders in Aberdeen (Thursday 2nd February 2017). He was chosen to receive the accolade in light of his leadership, creativity and commitment to delivering results in both enhanced recovery and subsea decommissioning arenas.

Over 4,500 unique visitors made their way to Europe’s largest subsea event, Subsea Expo, held in Aberdeen this week. Delegates flew in from all corners of the world, including Brazil, China, Japan and Mozambique. The largest wholly-focused subsea event in Europe, Subsea Expo is organised by industry body Subsea UK. Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK, said: "The worst of the pain appears to be behind us and there are promising signs of recovery. The subsea opex market should remain relatively robust and there are signals that delayed projects may be getting back on track.

The Hydro Group was named subsea company of the year at the Subsea UK’s annual awards while Enpro’s Ian Donald was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the industry. The awards, which celebrate the achievements of companies and individuals in the UK subsea industry, were presented at a gala dinner in Aberdeen during Subsea Expo - Europe’s largest subsea-focused exhibition and conference. The awards were presented in front of over 500 leaders from the subsea sector. Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK hosted the ceremony with former England rugby captain Matt Dawson as guest speaker. The top award, Company of the Year, was presented to The Hydro Group. With over 100 employees, the company is at the forefront in the development and innovation of subsea product technologies. In a period of tough external dynamics, The Hydro Group has focused on market diversification, while delivering profitable and steady growth based on its people and technology.

New action plan to cement Scotland’s leading position in £50bn global subsea market. Enpro Subsea has announced a research and development grant from Scottish Enterprise which will see the firm investing £1.5million to develop its flow assurance technology further to address emerging markets in deeper waters. The news came as Scottish Enterprise revealed a new Subsea Engineering Action Plan with the aim of capturing an even bigger slice of the current £50 billion global subsea market. Scottish Government Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, Paul Wheelhouse, visited oil and gas firm, Enpro Subsea Ltd to announce its new £1.5 million investment to support innovation, a key theme of the plan.
